When I was younger, I wasn't a big reader at all. Specially because when I began learning English in 4th grade, I was on a 1.9 reader level.. almost 3 years behind my actual grade. Being an ESOL student was not for the weak! It made me reject books until I was out of high school.
I picked up a book again when I was 22 years old, all in hopes of figuring myself out. I was going through a very confusing and difficult time in life, living without a sense of clarity and following a path that wasn't at all good for me.
Self help books helped me unravel my being, and dig into my soul. Every book I picked up took me on a different journey, but all of them ended with a sense of peace and understanding of myself.
In this blog, I will be telling you my 3 favorite books and why! I hope it pushes you to start educating yourself about yourself. && no, they're not in any order.
1 . The Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer
If you’re a beginner reader, this book is the perfect way to start. It’s one of the first books I read that made me feel like I wasn’t alone in this world. The way it’s written makes you feel like you are talking to a friend who is helping you declutter your mind.
My favorite part is when he mentions that “little voice” in our head, and how it can be our best friend or our biggest enemy.
Sometimes we don’t realize how much of our suffering comes from self sabotage, this book helped me separate my mind, from my soul. —Xo, Thal
2. ”The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari" by Robin Sharma
This book was truly a perfect example of where a workaholic mentality takes you. It opened my eyes on how we put importance on things that are material and how we can miss out on the real gifts of life if we don't balance out our lives.
It's a good read for those wanting to step away from what society tells us to chase and step into how to live a life full of grace, happiness, and fulfillment.
Living in a goal-oriented world, it is heart warming to hear people share their story on how money does not buy happiness. —Xo, Thal
3. All About Love by Bell Hooks
Wow! It’s all I can say. This book describes perfectly how we are programmed into believing love is something that IT IS NOT.
It breaks down generational trauma and blockages that are passed on to us.. and how we can overcome them.
Love is a touchy subject, and so many of us want to believe it is just a feeling but it is not. I recommend this book to anyone, male or female, educate yourselves on how Love is created, maintained, and cultivated. —Xo, Thal
